Causes of pain

Specific causes of pain are too numerous to list. However, they can be broken down into various categories including:
  • Injury -(mechanical- accidents such as falls, sprains, cuts)
    • (temperature-heat, cold)
    • (electrical-burn)
    • (chemical-acid burn)
  • Disease- (cancer, kidney disease, blood vessel disease, heart disease, arthritis)
  • Infection (viral, bacterial, fungal)
  • Inflammation (brought on by disease, injury, infection)
  • Oxygen starvation (brought on by disease or injury)
  • Nerve damage (brought on by disease or injury)
  • Stress (results in headaches, increased perception of pain and prolongs pain)
  • Fatigue (increases the perception of pain and lowers tolerance to it)
